This is the time of year that temperatures are below freezing more than they’re above. That means there are some slight changes to how we do graffiti removal. But have no fear, all graffiti can be removed throughout the winter.

The changes all depend on the surface the graffiti is located on.

Tags on unpainted brick/concrete are forwarded to the City of Winnipeg graffiti department over the winter.  The City uses a soda blaster machine that uses high pressure air and baking soda to do removals in temperatures below freezing. Because the City’s graffiti department handles removal in all neighbourhoods, it may take a little longer than usual for the removal to take place after reporting.

Tags that are on a painted surface can be painted over as long as the weather is above -20 degrees Celsius and dry. It may take us a little longer to do the removal if we get a severe cold spell or the weather is around 0 degrees Celsius and rainy.

If the graffiti is on glass or unpainted metal or any unpainted smooth surfaces we can be remove it regardless of temperature or weather. There will never be delays for this kind of  removal due to winter weather.
